Tomari Port Terminal (Tomarin) in Naha City provides access to the unrivaled beauty of the Kerama Archipelago, which includes the world-famous Zamami and Tokashiki Islands. This year, the ferry port celebrates its 20th anniversary of operation, and a festival was held from 11 to 13 September to mark the occasion.
The main goals of the “Tomarin Festa” were to deepen our understanding of the islands it connects us with and to help increase their prosperity. Each island held a stall selling local products and cuisine, and a competition was held to see whose food was considered the tastiest.
To mark the opening of the festival, all the ferries blasted their horns simultaneously while visitors released blue balloons into the air. From then on there were many shows and events, such as a jazz band, Okinawan Taiko drum performance, dances by children of all ages and a sumo wrestling competition. There was even a demonstration of how a whole tuna is sectioned, with free sashimi for everyone afterwards!
The weather was beautiful and the multitude of visitors contributed to the lively atmosphere. Everyone had a great time enjoying the shows and delicious food alike.
